What is Spinal Anesthesia?
What is spinal anesthesia? Injecting local anesthetic, numbing medicine, typically with a small amount of narcotic, directly into the spinal fluid. The approach is the same as an epidural, through the lower part of the back with a tiny needle. Spinal anesthesia may be slightly easier to place, is very reliable, has a very fast onset and is the most common anesthetic for scheduled cesarean section today.
