How come I can’t be in the room during the epidural or spinal?

Many times, family and friends do not want to leave your side even for a moment – even when the epidural or spinal is administered. When asked to step outside for a few minutes, they may become upset with the hospital staff. During those times, family and friends ask WHY they can’t be in the room and watch while you are given an epidural or spinal anesthetic.

In this Quick Tip, Dr. Mark shares with you why hospitals may have the “Rules of the Room” and why they are so important. You want your loved ones to have the best care possible, so sometimes visitors and even labor partners may be asked to leave for a few minutes, or even wear certain protective items to help maintain a sterile environment to prevent infections in the mom and baby.
