Risks of General Anesthesia
What are the risks of General Anesthesia?
Some women who come for a cesarean are afraid of getting a spinal or epidural anesthesia and ask to be put to sleep. The problem is that there are risks of general anesthesia use and it is not as safe as regional anesthesia for pregnant women having a c-section. Although rare, the death rate can be up to three times higher for death by anesthesia. So discuss your choices with your anesthesiologist (M.D.) or nurse anesthetist.
